What is bamboo flooring?
Compressed bamboo flooring is a floor covering made of Moso bamboo strips that are cut, dried and then pressed to a high density to form solid or laminated boards. Bamboo is the base material, and compression raises its surface hardness several times above that of a conventional hardwood.
This structure gives the flooring a hardness greater than oak, good dimensional stability and resistance to changes in humidity. The material is suitable for underfloor heating and wet rooms, in the traditional glued or floating versions.
The flooring is intended for interior floors in housing, offices, shops and cultural buildings. The boards arrive factory-finished, with a UV-cured lacquer or a ready-to-use natural oil.
The raw material, Moso bamboo, comes from managed plantations in China, where the resource renews itself within a few years. Distribution in Europe is handled by Ootouch, with permanent stock in Belgium.
Installation & uses
The boards can be glued down to a dry screed, laid floating with glued tongue-and-groove joints, or installed as a click system on an HDF core, depending on the version chosen. They are cut with a saw and handled like traditional timber flooring.
The flooring suits all dry and wet interior rooms, provided the compatible version is used. Over underfloor heating, the conductivity of compressed bamboo gives good heat transfer and a shorter warm-up time.
The factory finish needs only cleaning with lukewarm water and a mild product for oiled or lacquered wood. Periodic re-oiling restores the appearance in high-traffic areas.
At end of life, the boards can be lifted and relaid elsewhere, or sent to a wood recycling route for secondary use, as long as the finish remains compatible.

The raw material comes from managed plantations in China, is processed to order in partner workshops, then distributed in Belgium with technical support from the specifier to the installer.

Does bamboo flooring stand up to foot traffic?
Its Brinell hardness is around 9 kg/mm² to EN 1534. It is declared for interior use, including wet rooms, and classed C-s1 d0 for reaction to fire. The guarantee runs for up to thirty years.
Can it be laid in wet rooms?
Yes, in all interior rooms, dry or wet, provided the compatible version is chosen. Compressed bamboo copes with changes in humidity thanks to its dimensional stability.
Which thickness should I choose?
Four thicknesses, 10, 12, 14 and 15 mm, for widths of 60 to 208 mm and lengths of 300 to 1,850 mm depending on the product. Conductivity 0.24 W/m·K.
