Paper fibre board is an interior fit-out material used for facings and partitions. Made from fibres from the paper industry, it turns industrial waste into a building material.

The material

What is a paper fibre board?

Paper fibre board is an interior fit-out material made from sludge recovered from the filters of the paper industry and from post-consumer paper fibre. A biotechnological process activates the natural bonding of the fibres and hardens the board, without resin, glue or chemical additives.

The result is a hard, uniform board that can be worked like a conventional fibreboard, with standard joinery tools. The material remains vapour-open and VOC-neutral.

It is suited to interior wall cladding, stud partitions, suspended ceilings, furniture tops, acoustic panels and the fit-out of exhibition stands or pop-up shops.

It is manufactured in Europe, using a process patented by Honext and now operated in a joint venture with the paper group WEPA. The board is Cradle to Cradle Gold certified and, at end of life, returns to the paper loop or goes to industrial composting.

Installation

Installation & uses

The board is worked with a circular saw, a jigsaw or a router. It is fixed by screwing, stapling or gluing, depending on the substrate and the use.

It is installed as interior wall cladding, in stud partitions, as a suspended ceiling or as furniture facing. A dedicated installation manual gives the setting-out principles for the cladding.

The two faces have a slightly different texture, a result of the filtration process, which leaves a choice between a more uniform or a more textured appearance. The surface is left exposed or receives a compatible paint, oil or varnish.

At end of life, the board returns to the paper loop to be fed back into production, or can be composted in an industrial composting facility.

About the producer

Honext is a European producer of Spanish origin, based in Barcelona, specialising in paper fibre boards made from paper industry waste. Its patented biotechnological process turns sludge and rejects into hard boards, without resin or additives.

Since 2025 the company has partnered with the paper group WEPA to industrialise production on a European scale, with Cradle to Cradle Gold certification.

FAQ

Is paper fibre board loadbearing?

No. It is non-structural and is used to finish walls, partitions and ceilings. It withstands a soft body impact of 1,200 N·m and a hard body impact of 10 N·m according to EAD 210132-00-0504, without collapse, penetration or projection of fragments.

What is its embodied carbon?

−730 kg CO₂ eq per cubic metre of board over A1-A3, the net of +92.5 fossil emissions and −751 biogenic sequestration. The declared unit is the cubic metre. Source: GlobalEPD EN 15804-036 EPD, compliant with EN 15804+A2, which assumes a reference service life of at least thirty years.

Which thickness should I choose?

A standard thickness of 12 mm, in 2440 × 1220 mm boards. Conductivity 0.10 W/m·K to EN 12664. Reaction to fire C-s1 d0.

What happens to it at end of life?

It returns to the paper loop or goes to industrial composting. The product is Cradle to Cradle Gold certified across its full scope.
